August 2012

Where have we been?? Not very many places. August has been pretty event-less. We have been in our normal routine--taking at least one walk a day, playing inside, playing outside, taking long naps, learning new things and enjoying the last few weeks of summer.

The girls and I loooove to go to the park. We have two fairly decent ones within walking distance of us. We have been able to go with our friends, Jess and Aurelia, a couple times.

Lyla exploring the sand....it is still something they want to eat. gross.

Our cute friend, Aurelia.  We sure do love her!

Kendal--the girls were wearing their shirts we got at the Denver Zoo!

We have this fabulous place to go, Thanksgiving Point, about 20 miles from our house. But, it is pretty pricey for us poor college students. During the month of August, every Tuesday was $2 entrance. Way cheaper than the normal $10. I was able to take the girls the first Tuesday to the Gardens. The 2nd Tuesday we all went to the Dinosaur Museum. We only have pictures from the Gardens--they were more beautiful and fun for the girls anyways. We spent the morning roaming the gardens and at noon we were able to play in their little water area--complete with a huge Noah's Arc and animal sculptures. It was perfect--we brought our own little picnic lunch and got to run around.

HUGE man-made waterfalls. I pretty much spent the entire time chasing the girls around. They loved the wide open space.
Cheese!

Look at Lyla closely...she is shrieking out of pure excitement.

Lyla with a big goose egg on her forehead.

Since I stopped doing the monthly updates I thought I would give a little update on the girls. We have a doctor's appointment next week for 15 month well checks--so we will have their weight/height then.

The girls are definitely toddlers. I don't have two little babies anymore, but two moving, talking, understanding toddlers. It is a lot of fun, but comes with its new challenges.

Kendal:
-pretty much runs everywhere
-likes to "jump" (go up on her tip toes then back down over and over)
-has had her share of sickness this month :(
-is getting some molars in

Lyla:
-will take lots of steps in a row, on her own, but isn't walking fulltime
-is extremely sneaky and can wiggle her way out of any strap except her carseat (not yet, anyways)
-LOVES bathtime--she swims, splashes, and makes bubbles with her mouth

Kendal & Lyla:
-climb everywhere, no surface is safe anymore
-like to watch me cook, we have them stand on a chair and hold onto the back
-say & wave hi/bye sometimes
-love babies
-are going through a "picky eating" stage *sigh*
-favorite thing to do: sing and dance
-have watched their first Disney movies: Little Mermaid and Aladdin
-saying: thank you, please, hi, bye, mama, dada, doggy, baby, uh-oh

Leigh started his LAST Fall semester of school and he was very excited to start. His summer internship ended--he was happy to be done. He has already started applying for jobs and interviews could start as early as the end of this month!

I have been cooking, cleaning, working out, doing laundry, entertaining two toddlers, cleaning, napping, cleaning, reading, sewing...and did I mention, lots of cleaning? AND I have been babysitting this darling little 6-month old baby boy for 12 hours a week. The girls and I love it.
