24 Weeks

I thought it was time for an update...we had an appointment with the perinatologist yesterday and our Prenatal Class all day today at the hospital.

The Girls: They are measuring at 1 lb. 6 oz. and 1 lb. 7 oz. They are growing fabulously and everything still looks great. They move like CRAZY. During our ultrasound the nurse went quiet for a minute towards the end (which I always assume is a bad sign) and then she explained how much they had moved since the beginning of the ultrasound. They were both head down and then almost both transverse by the end. I feel them constantly--kicking and pushing themselves out. I started having some time before I go to bed where I have them listen to classical music--which they absolutely love when they are awake.

How I'm Feeling: I feel great. I have started to get the feet swelling/aching by the end of the day (my job requires me to be on my feet most of the day). My ribs ache some days. And I've gotten this weirdo rash all over my body--which I won't go in to detail, but it was miserable for a few days. I saw a doctor about it and talked to the perinatologist and it sounds like it is just something that can happen during pregnancy. I have it pretty much under control--lots of lotion and some benadryl at night seems to do the trick. I still get pretty good sleep, heartburn only occurs sometimes, I can still bend over, and no stretch (love) marks yet.

Prenatal Class: It was awesome! We chose to do a prenatal class that was offered at the hospital through my doctor's office. The nurse that presented has worked at the hospital we are delivering at and has worked with my OB for a long, long time. She knows him very well and was able to talk specifically about what he does in certain situations (epidural, c-section, episiotomy, etc.).   It was nice to hear what the doctor does from her point of view. We have loved our doctor so far, but today just confirmed it all. He has the lowest percentage of c-section deliveries in the hospital (which I am VERY happy about). He is very skilled, especially with twins. I also got to ask lots of questions about delivering at that specific hospital. And we got a tour! It was awesome to see where to go, where we will be, where our babies will be, and everything. The one thing about the prenatal class was that we watched several birthing videos. I have seen birthing videos several times before this in various classes I have taken, but this time around was different. I will be delivering in 14 weeks or less and just watching made me nervous. Leigh wasn't squeamish at all though--hopefully that is the case when it is happening right before his eyes and not on a TV. We did find out that if I'm still pregnant at 38 weeks that the doctor would probably induce me--which means these babies should be here July 2nd or earlier! :)

What is Still Left to do: We still need to buy several baby things, attend baby showers, choose a pediatrician, finish sewing my many projects, get our apartment baby-ready, and lots of other things I'm sure that will come up in the weeks to come.

I feel so blessed that in a short few months we will have two beautiful baby girls in our arms. It still seems surreal at times (regardless of my huge belly) that there are two babies growing inside of me and that we are responsible for them. And I already love being a mommy. :)
