July 3, 4, & 5, 2011: Days 15, 16, 17

Kendal now weighs 4 lbs. 9 oz. She is getting big! She is still doing great with her nutritive feedings--just this morning I think she actually got some volume of milk. We will probably start doing test weights before and after to see if she really is getting anything.

Lyla now weighs 3 lbs. 7 oz.! This little girl has been having some difficulties the past couple days. She was put back on oxygen because she couldn't keep her oxygen saturation up. Then last night it dipped super low and the nurse had to vigorously stimulate her and give her a and little bit of extra oxygen to bring her back up. It was 40 minutes after she was given her feeding, so they think there is a possibility she is experiencing reflux. They are going to monitor it. I am still keeping her on non-nutritive feedings, but when she is showing hunger cues she does a great job and seems ready for nutritive. I'm waiting to see how she does with everything in the next couple days. On a good note, she got her picc line removed, she is tolerating her feedings (besides the possible reflux her belly doesn't get too full and hard), and she can wear clothes!

The nurse suggested we take a break since we are always at the NICU and yesterday seems like sort of a step back. So today, we are spending the afternoon at home--watching a movie, taking a nap, and getting things done around the house. It is really really hard for us to leave the girls, but we know it will help with the stress and exhaustion. We know the girls are in good hands.

Kendal loves to suck on her binkie and look around

Kendal getting her first bath from mommy! (with assistance from the nurse) She LOVED it! She was so relaxed she pooped in the tub and had to get new bath water to finish.

All bundled up inbteween the bath waters

We also loved bathtime--helped make us feel like parents

Oh my, they are soooooo cute. love you guys!!! Sorry to hear that Lyla is having a few hiccups. I'm glad you guys took a break. I can't even imagine how hard this must be on you both and I'm sure it is taking its toll. Love you, and always I wish I was there to clean your house, and make you meals, and love on babes. XOXO
